The organization should establish a protocol and specific practices that are utilized when a critical incident happens. This includes:

• defining what constitutes an critical incident;
• how to access these supports in a timely manner;
• how to access both immediate supports as well as longer-term supports; and
• leaders or supervisors checking in with all staff members after a critical incident and providing support and resources.
