DOMAIN 6: ORGANIZATIONAL EVALUATION AND MONITORING
Item 3
To what extent does your organization regularly monitor workforce trends that may signify a lack of safety or an increase in STS?
Strategies:
Periodically implement a safety survey or safety forum to assess the level of perceived individual and organizational psychological safety of staff.
Monitor overall retention and turnover rates as well as turnover intention.7 An increase in staff attrition and/or absenteeism may signify that staff are being negatively impacted by STS. If organizations fail to monitor these trends and intervene accordingly, they may be faced with staff shortages and a decreased ability to meet client needs.

Assessments
Developed by Gert Roodt, the Turnover Intention Scale (TIS-6) is a six-question scale that assesses how likely a staff member is to stay at their organization. To administer the assessment, distribute the scale and ask staff to respond to each question based on their feelings and thoughts over the last nine months. A total score of 18 or less indicates that a staff member is likely to remain with the organization.
Strategies:
Conduct regular retention reviews, which involve “holding dedicated and intentional conversations with staff about their work experiences, their preferences for how their contributions are recognized, and what will support their intent to stay.”8
Incorporate questions into exit interviews to determine if STS may have played a role in the staff member’s decision to leave the organization.
