To what extent do supervisors know what agency resources and supports (formal and informal) are available to staff?

Strategies for Supervisors:

It can be helpful to compile a list of relevant agency and community resources to share with all staff.

  • Formal agency supports may include:
    • Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs)
    • Mental health/substance abuse benefits and services
    • Paid time off
    • Regular supervision and/or consultation
    • Peer support/mentorship programs
    • Wellness programs/initiatives
    • Training on STS and resilience
    • Changes in job role or assignments
  • Informal agency supports may include:
    • Talking with peers
    • Consulting with supervisor outside of formal supervision
    • Informal mentorship

NOTE

Not every agency will offer these services, and not every staff member will have access to these supports, so it is important to focus on what is available.
