To what extent do supervisors regularly model and engage in adaptive coping strategies at work?

Strategies for Supervisors:

• Promote and encourage self-care by
  • asking staff members to join you for a break or a walk;
  • incorporating relaxation and/or mindfulness activities into staff meetings;
  • encouraging staff members not to work on their days off and modeling it yourself (for example, arrange coverage at work, avoid participating in calls or checking/sending emails); and
  • encouraging staff members to schedule leave days and modeling by announcing planned leave.

• Supervisors have the knowledge and ability to help staff members safely share the emotional experience of working with people impacted by trauma.
• Supervisors work to enhance individual psychological safety when meeting with staff.
