Strategies:
- It is important to evaluate the impact of efforts to address STS, such as STS training and/or changes in organizational policies and practices intended to mitigate STS (e.g., reduced caseloads, mental health days, and/or wellness initiatives).
- Evaluation of these efforts can include staff surveys (training evaluations, job satisfactions surveys, STS assessments, self-rating tools, focus groups, and/or interviews with staff).
- The above measures can be used pre- and post-intervention to evaluate whether the organizational effort made an impact on STS scores among staff.1
- In addition to formal measures, checking in with staff and asking for their feedback on what is and is not working to address STS on a regular basis is important.

Assessments
- The Secondary Traumatic Stress-Informed Organization Assessment (STSI-OA)5 can be used for ongoing evaluation of the agency’s efforts to become more trauma-informed across all six domains.
- The rating tools included in this Blueprint can be used to assess specific progress in each of the six domains and identify areas in which further attention may be needed.
- The Supervisory Competencies for Trauma-Informed Supervision Self-Rating Tool, Cross-Disciplinary Version6 can be used to assess changes in supervisors’ perceived STS competencies to evaluate the impact of STS training for supervisors.
