To what extent does the organization support staff to have clear breaks from the work, such as having coverage when on vacation, not having expectations for working during off time, and ensuring that on-call work is limited?
Strategies:
In order to feel safe and protected at work, promote a culture within the organization that encourages staff to take time off and not feel obligated to be on call. There should be policies in place, but it must also be something that is not just on paper but is role-modeled and supported throughout the organization.
If there is on-call work, there should be clear boundaries for when it takes place, and it should be shared among staff so that everyone is given a break.
